I've been continuously inspired by the enthusiastic response to my workshops from both children and adults. Some of the most rewarding moments are when students realize that they too can create interesting music. I feel that my job as an instructor is to demystify the process of instrument building and music making so that anyone who has a passion for exploring sound can create something of their very own. |
Music Discovery Lab was developed by Jason Mullinax, a teacher, percussionist, songwriter, and videographer with over 30 years of drumming and performance experience. He launched Music Discovery Lab in the Washington, DC region in 2015, building on a lifelong passion for rhythm, creativity, and community. Since then, Jason has performed throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, composed soundtracks for documentary films, and released original music on his own record label.
In 2021, Jason relocated to North Carolina’s Triangle area, settling in Carrboro. When he’s not tapping on everything in his house to see what kind of music it can make, he enjoys cooking, traveling, playing video games, digging through thrift stores, binging on scary movies, and hanging out with his family. You can find Jason's original music on Bandcamp and you can subscribe to his YouTube channel for documentation of his many musical experiments. |
