My goal as a teacher is to teach my students concepts that will give them a solid foundation in drumming while emphasizing creativity and musicality. While I emphasize the fundamentals of good technique and theory, I also encourage students to view drumming as a form of artistic expression and pursue areas and types of percussion that interest them.
I currently teach virtual lessons at the Richardson School of Music in Takoma Park, MD and Creative Music Instruction (CMI) in Carrboro, NC. Please contact me through their websites or directly through this website. |
Jason has been an amazing drum teacher for our 8-year old son. He has the perfect combination of patience and instruction to help children learn. He brings his passion for music to his teaching, allowing our son both to explore music and focus on learning core skills. Jason clearly cares about his students’ musical development and I appreciate how he tailors his lessons to our son’s ability and interests. We are extremely happy with our experience with Jason and recommend him to anyone considering music lessons for themselves or their children. |
Frequently Asked Questions |
|
What ages do you teach? |
I primarily teach students aged 6 years and up though I will consider younger students on a case by case basis. I have taught students as young as 4 and as experienced as 65. You are never to old to learn how to play drums! |
How long are the lessons? |
I provide weekly 30, 45 and 60 minute lessons and they can customize if needed. Younger students tend to do better with 30 minutes while older students typically appreciate the focus of 45-60 minute sessions. |
How much do lessons cost? |
30 minute sessions cost $130/mo 45 minute sessions cost $190/mo 60 minute sessions cost $230/mo Tuition is due at the beginning of each month. |
Do I need a drum set to take lessons? |
Ideally you should have access to a drum set while taking lessons. However, if you are trying out drumming for the first time, you may not want to commit to purchasing a full drum kit until you are sure that it is something that you want to pursue. As long as you have drum sticks and a practice pad, you can still make progress in your lessons. |
Do you teach virtual or in-person lessons? |
Right now, I am primarily teaching virtual lessons with a few exceptions. Through Richardson, I will continue to teach virtually. Through CMI, I am primarily virtual right now but hope to move to in-person as soon as is safe to do so. |
